Redwood High School Parent Education Series 2012-2013

PTSA meetings, held the first Thursday of each month from 8:30-9:00 am, are followed by Parent Education Events from 9:00 – 10:00 am in the Kreps Conference Center. Additional Evening Events will be scheduled throughout the year.

8:00am in the Redwood Cafeteria (CEA: Light refreshments & coffee while meeting new friends.
 
Sept 6th: Redwood 101 Part 1: “What to Expect":
Meet the Superintendent, Parent School Board Member, Principal, Assistant Principals and Academic Counselors -- hear about the upcoming Doherty Drive closure and construction.

October 4th: Part II of "Redwood 101": “Who Supports Us?”
Meet the School Resource Officer, Athletic Director, College and Career Specialist, School Psychologist, BACR Counselor and Social Issues Teacher and advisor to new club, Friday Night Live -- all of whom support the health, safety and welfare of our students at Redwood.
 
Oct 4th Evening Event:  Madeline Levine, Ph.D. on her latest book:  "Teach Your Children Well" 7-9 pm Small Gym.  Hear this well-known Marin psychologist, mother of 3 Redwood graduates and best-selling author of The Price of Privilege discuss Parenting for Authentic Success:  Why values and coping skills matter more than grades, trophies and "fat" envelopes.
 
November 1st: "Sleep and Your Teen".  Learn about the latest research on how sleep (or lack thereof) affects the adolescent brain, learning and memory from a UC-Berkeley expert.
 
November 13th: College Night for Juniors 6:30-8:30pm
 
January 10th: “Freshman Year 101”
After settling into life with a highschooler, hear from a local expert on what we should be  expecting from our emerging adults and newly turned teens.
 
January 22nd: “Sophomore Night 6:30-8:00pm
 
February 7th: “Technology 101”
There are lots of new apps, programs and applications on computers, ipads and iphones these days -- listen to MCOE Technology Director Dan Philips on the latest in technology that supports
learning and good study habits (and organization!).
 
March 7th: “AP Classes 101”
Hear from a panel of AP and non-AP parents about the pros and cons of the AP (and Honors)
coursework.
 
March 28th: Open House 6:30-8:00pm
 
April 4th: “Parties 101”
A lively discussion on the ins and outs of teenage partying.
