BASIC AID NEWSFLASH VII (9-May-2003)
Action Alert A1 — Sample letter of thanks, Governor! (IF he pulls the proposal)

The Honorable Gray Davis
State Capitol Building
Sacramento, CA 95814
(916) 445-2841 fax: 916-445-4633

Re:    Basic Aid School Budget Cuts

Dear Governor Davis:

Thank you for reexamining the Basic Aid cuts, and for your decision to remove the proposal from the state budget. Your attention to the issue was much appreciated by us all, and I applaud your judgment that they represented too drastic and disproportionate a hit for our schools to take.

We in the Basic Aid communities recognize the severity of the budget crisis faced by the state of California. And we willingly take our fair share of the cuts borne by education statewide. However, you have done the right thing in preventing the decimation of good schools and diverse programs, the kind of quality learning your record proves you strive to support.

Thank you for remaining dedicated to education through these bruising financial times.

Sincerely,

The Basic Aid Newsflash is published by a group of concerned citizens in Bolinas to support the organizing efforts of our communities in opposition to Governor Davis’ proposed taking of local property taxes. Help us build the network: email this around to as many parents, grandparents, press, staff, community members, etc. as you can. If you received this as a forward from someone else, subscribe by email to basicaidnews@earthlink.net. Thank you!
