Room 111 Friday, February 17, 2012 Seniors- Do you need any last minute help with the FAFSA? If so, come to the College & Career Center Monday, February 27th at lunch to get help from representatives from 10,000 Degrees. Looking Beyond the Rankings: An Evening with Marty O’Connell, Executive Director, Colleges That Change Lives is being held on Thursday, March 1st from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at the Cascade Room, Mill Valley Community Center. Marty will share her insights into college admissions and the importance of a student-centered college search process. This event is free and open to all students and parents. To help you prepare for the college admissions and financial aid application process, 10,000 Degrees offers a program called the 10KD Institute. To be eligible, you need to 1)a sophomore who will be a junior in Fall 2012 or a junior who will be a senior in Fall 2012; 2) demonstrate financial need. If you would like more information and an application please stop by the College & Career Center to pick one up. The deadline to apply is March 2, 2012. Seniors- Please don’t wait to the last minute to complete your financial aid applications. You need to complete the FAFSA online by March 2nd for California schools (maybe earlier for private and out of state schools) and for the Cal Grant you need to pick up a GPA Verification form in the College & Career Center and have it signed off by Charlene DeLosa in room 103. The deadline for Cal Grant is a March 2nd postmark. Don’t wait. Seniors- Applications for The Redwood High School Scholarship are available in the College & Career Center. Awards can range from $500 to $5,000.Criteria includes financial need, good citizenship, perseverance and determination, good moral character, academic achievement and criteria specific to endowed awards. Deadline: February 29, 2012 at 3:30 in the College & Career Center. JUNIORS: The following Mock tests will be given during the next six weeks: Mock ACT (Full length test – Revolution) Saturday, March 3rd 8:45 to 1:00 (75 students max) MOCK Subject tests- One hour per subject, Thursday, March 15th 2:30 to 4:30 (25 students max) Each student may select two subject tests to take. A minimum number of 10 students need to be signed up for the Saturday tests or the tests will be cancelled and your payment will be refunded. Signups are being taken at this time and students can sign up in the College & Career Center. A $10.00 donation for each test date and checks should be payable to RHS Foundation – Scholarship Fund. Fee waivers are available if necessary. An essay writing workshop for juniors is being held on Thursday, March 29th to assist students with the essay portion of the ACT/SAT. Sign-ups are being taken in the College & Career Center and the session will be limited to 25 students. |
