TECHNOLOGY: Tech Talk for May 2006
The latest (short!) edition of Tech
Talk, providing for your afternoon reading pleasure...
TUHSD Technology Trouble Ticket
System
We now have an official trouble ticket system for technology.
After a lengthy search for something that was robust and
easy-to-use, we have installed and are making available SmarterTicket,
our new technology help desk. Attached to this update is
a document (PDF format) that describes how to use the system.
It is designed to help you report problems that you are having
with technology. It allows you to submit a ticket through the
website, or by email. Once you do this, you can track the
progress of the ticket and know that it has been delivered
directly to the technician at your school site. This system
will help us organize our support efforts and evaluate the
workload that currently exists for all of our technicians.
You can access the site several ways. In a web browser,
type in “help.tuhsd.edu” in the address bar.
There is no need for “http” or for the “www”.
On a number of computers in the District, you can simply
type “help” without even the “tuhsd.edu” portion.
If none of these work, or if you are not inside the District,
you can type in “www.tamdistrict.org/help” and
access the site that way. Finally, you can send an email
message; see the help
guide for these addresses.
If you visit the website you have the opportunity to view
help requests (trouble tickets) that you have previously
submitted, or to enter a new one (“Submit a Ticket”).
The attached
document describes this process in more detail.
We encourage you to use this system and will remind everyone
about it in the Fall. As always, you can email or call me
(jhames@tamdistrict.org) if you have any questions about
this.
SIS UPDATE
You should have received an email from me recently
regarding the SIS Demonstration Days. These will be all-day
demonstrations of the two systems we have narrowed our search
to, Zangle and eSchoolPlus. Zangle will be demonstrated on
May 31st, while eSchoolPlus will be shown the next day, June
1st. Please refer to the recent districtwide email regarding
these days for more information.
UPCOMING SURVEYS
There are several surveys that we will be
distributing in the next few weeks. The most important is
the annual CTAP2 assessment survey. Some of you may have
already updated your surveys, but we need to ensure that
everyone has the opportunity to do this. It is a requirement
of state technology funding that we survey everyone every
18 months. Information about this process will be forthcoming.
ATOMIC LEARNING
This is just a quick reminder about this
service. Please don’t forget that this can be a great resource
when you are using an application and just can’t quite figure
out how to do something. This is freely available to all
of our employees, students and student families. From within
the District, just go to www.atomiclearning.com and you will
be automatically logged-in.
