Bond Modernization Program Report to the Community
Increment 2 Work Begins: 20-Feb-2003

In the past month, the Tamalpais Union High School District has accepted bids for four contracts, all part of the Measure A Bond Modernization Program.

  1. At Tamalpais High School, work has commenced on re-routing a storm drain from the hill behind Mead Theater down Almonte Boulevard and into the campus’s storm drain system at the bottom of the theater. The work also includes filling the broken storm drain under Mead Theater and filling the catch basin behind the theater. This work is expected to take about six weeks, weather permitting.
  2. A contract is also being awarded at Tamalpais HS for placement of 10 portable classrooms on the outdoor basketball courts between the tennis courts and the weight room. These portables will be used by students and teachers while their rooms are being modernized over the next two years. Parking in the basketball area, established during last summer’s Increment 1 work, will be re-located back to the original back parking lot.
  3. Redwood High School’s portable work is also underway, with 18 portable classrooms and a toilet building to be placed on the west outfield of the junior varsity softball field near the District Office. This work will require installation of a sewer extension and grading of the field surface. The first two rows of Redwood’s East Parking Lot will be closed during March to allow delivery of the portable buildings.
  4. At Drake High School, Increment 2 work is scheduled to start within the next few weeks. This contract involves the complete modernization of Building 500, located on Saunders Avenue near the back of the campus. This Building, currently home to an art classroom, an engineering classroom, and a computer lab, will house two art classes, ceramics class, photography class, computer lab and engineering class when the work is finished in the Fall of this year. Modernization also includes seismic bracing, new windows and doors, general cleanup and painting throughout the building.

Designs are also near completion, and bids will be advertised within the next month, for Increment 2 work at Redwood and Tamalpais High Schools.

  • Redwood’s package encompasses the modernization of the main building, District Office, Gym and locker rooms, and portable buildings, as well as construction of five small relocatable buildings: two regular classrooms, a special education classroom, a physical education classroom, and a storage building. Work is scheduled to start in May and will continue into 2005.
  • Tam’s Increment 2 work covers Gus Gym, boys’ and girls’ locker rooms, Palmer Hall and the campus’s Science portable. Work is schedule to start in May and should be complete by the end of this year.
