Souder’s Senior Update #5
College Admissions Visits are ongoing! Register on Naviance and attend a bunch of them. Don’t see the college you are interested in. Check the Redwood and Tam sites and attend their visits or go directly to the college’s website and set up a virtual visit.
LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION
If you requested a letter of recommendation from me, please check your portal (Common App, Sendedu, Coalition, etc.). It will have been uploaded on or before the application deadline. If you do not see that it has been uploaded, please contact me immediately, as this means that I do not have your invite to send the recommendation.
If your deadline is fast approaching or has passed and your teacher has not yet uploaded their letter on your behalf, please send them a thank you for doing the letter with a friendly reminder of your deadline. Keep in mind that colleges allow teachers a bit of leeway on the deadline, but students MUST meet the application deadline.
UC ADDITIONAL COMMENTS SECTION - SCIENCE
Applicants can use the first additional comments box, following the "Academic History" section, to explain their course selection decisions, a circumstance that prevented the student from taking more rigorous courses, gaps in education, differences in terms or grading systems, or a situation that affected their grades. We suggest that you use the statement below that pertains to your science coursework:
TLC students should include this statement: “Our class was required to take Integrated Science 1-2 during freshman year. Sophomore year, students in my small learning community were required to take Integrated Science 3-4, but students in other small learning communities were required to take Physics in the Universe, our new NGSS science class.”
For ROCK and daVinci, use this statement: “Our class was required to take Integrated Science 1-2 during freshman year. Sophomore year, students in my small learning community were required to take Physics in the Universe, our new NGSS science class. Students in another small learning community were required to take Integrated Science 3-4.”
The reason we are recommending this is to help the UC application readers understand why some students are only showing three years of lab science and not four on the application since Integrated Science has only been approved as an elective for the UC/CSU system.
