    • Narcan Training Workshop Today! For those of you who did not know last month (October) was Substance Abuse Prevention month so this week Peer Resource is holding a substance abuse prevention awareness week. This week, we aim to raise awareness about substance abuse and substance abuse prevention strategies that target excessive drug usage and how these strategies help curb this abusive drug consumption while also teaching harm reduction. To learn more about drug abuse and drug abuse prevention, keep an eye out for our colorful flyers all over campus and check out our table set up in front of our schools Wellness Center with other informative handouts and resources.

      TODAY there is a Narcan training workshop brought to our school from the Spahr Center.

      For those of you who don’t know, Narcan is a tool used to treat narcotic overdoses in an emergency situation and it has saved many lives. Stop by this training to learn more about Narcan and its proper usage!

    • Front Parking Lot Closure: The front lot is officially shut down through January.  Only students with a parking permit will be allowed to park on the field.  There will be NO DROP OFF in the front lot.  Please drop off in Saunders or in an alternate location.

     

    • New Bike Racks have been installed behind the old field house by the baseball fields, by the pool and softball fields and a few in front of the gym. Please make sure you always lock your bike on a rack and walk your bike on campus.

     

    • Campus Is Not Open during Break:  Students, this is a reminder that our campus is only open during lunch.  You are not allowed to leave campus between periods or during break. 

    • No Peer Tutoring Thursday, Nov. 9: Peer tutoring will resume regular hours next week.

    • Update On Parking Lot Solar Panel: The Front Lot will be closing next Wednesday morning for a couple of months. All students with parking permits should place permits in top right of front windshield and may park on Softball Field. No other parking on campus will be allowed. Students who get dropped off or picked up in the front lot must do so elsewhere. It will be a bit hectic, so thanks for following the rules and for being safe and patient.

    • Update On Parking Lot Solar Panel: The construction of our solar panels has been delayed. All parking will remain as is. We will continue to update you with any new information. 

     

    • The California Scholarship Federation (CSF) membership application for Fall is open!  It closes on October 18th at 4:00 pm.  No late applications are accepted. Applications are submitted online at this link: https://forms.gle/gL98SzjLtfwHAPvY6

    “The California Scholarship Federation, Inc. is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to recognize and encourage academic achievement and community service among middle and high school students in California…...Eligible students become members by submitting applications based on their report card grades. Membership is for one semester, and membership drives are held each semester within established periods dictated by the State bylaws”.

     

    • The student must apply each semester during the membership drive window. 

    • No late applications are accepted. 

    • The membership drives at AWHS happen in January and February using the fall semester grades and then again at the start of a new school year, August/September, using the spring semester grades (spring S2 grades of previous school year).

    • The dates of each drive are posted on the AWHS web  page. The dates are also advertised in Crew Announcements and AWHS Community News.

    • PLEASE note that students are to apply, not their parents.For parents who are tempted to complete the application for the student, it is suggested that you directly supervise your student completing it.

    • The qualifications for CSF semester membership requires the student to apply and have ten CSF points earned on grades from the previous semester.

    • Student Trustee Elections: Congratulations to our 2023-2024 Student Trustee, Gia Debok! Thank you to our candidates and to the students for casting their vote.

    • Join AWHS Site Council: It’s time to select our next Site Council Student Representatives. We’re seeking 4 students to join the council this year. To be considered, complete the “Interested in Student Site Council” google form by 4:00 PM Friday Sep. 15th.

    • Q Group Meets Wednesdays: Looking for an LGBTQ+ social-support space? Q Group meets Wednesdays during Tutorial 1 from 2:15PM- 3:30PM.

    • Sexual Health Clinic is on Friday, September 15th!

    The first one is coming up this week! Clinics are free and confidential and offer STI/STD testing, birth control, and more! Visit the Wellness Center (room 113) to sign up today.

    • Events from the Counseling Dept: 

      • UC Personal Insight Workshop: Today, Wednesday, 9/13 during  Tutorial 1 in the College and Career Center. Explore ideas and strategies for the Personal Insight Question.

      • Senior Night Application Night: Tuesday, September 19th at 5:30 pm in the Student Center: Topics such as the UC system, CSU system, Common Application and much more will be covered. The primary focus will be on applying to four-year schools.

    • 10,000 Degrees Is Here To Support: Our community partner, 10,000 Degrees, offers support to seniors with college and financial aid applications. Our new College Access Fellow, Julisa Gonzalez, will have office hours here at AWH each week, so please click here for more info.

    • Women’s Lacrosse Open Fields: All Archie students interested in playing women’s lacrosse are welcome to join open fields Wednesdays at 5:30 at the baseball field. If you’re a beginner this is a great time to learn or polish some skills before the season starts in the fall. Hope to see you there.
