Walk with a Purpose
The hallways empty out
Quickly, as everyone heads
To Saunders and beyond.
Crossing street after street
Always paying attention
Glancing left, right, left.
The quiet feels nice
Peaceful as a butterfly
Off in its own world.
As I approach downtown
Busyness takes over again
I walk faster now.
I am almost there
Sensing the comforting warmth
Of melted butter.
Of course there’s a line
An obstacle in my course
But I can only wait.
Familiar faces
Filling the room, I smile
As the line shortens.
There is a bagel
Silently screaming my name
Like I am screaming his.
