Re: Human Reproduction and Sexually Transmitted Diseases Instruction

The purpose of this letter is to inform you, as required by the State of California Education Code, that the Physiology Curriculum includes instruction on human reproduction and sexually transmitted diseases.

Students enrolled in Physiology will be taught the basic process of reproduction including human reproduction and development through a variety of instructional materials and teaching strategies.

As part of the unit on the immune system, your child may be expected to study various sexually transmitted diseases. Instruction will include lectures, discussions, worksheets, videos and reading assignments.

These biological topics are an important part of the science curriculum developed by the Tamalpais Union High School District and its science departments. Teaching of this basic information is also recommended by the California State Board of Education.

As a parent/guardian of a student enrolled in this class, you have the right to inspect and review the instructional materials dealing with human reproduction and sexually transmitted diseases. You also have the right to request in writing that your child be excused from those parts of the curriculum which conflict with religious training and beliefs.

Please call if you have any questions. If we can help in any way, please let us know. Thank you for your continued cooperation and support.
