Michelle Lackneymlackney@tamdistrict.orgAdvanced Algebra is part of the basic preparation for the study of calculus, statistics, and the sciences. This course is offered to students who demonstrate an exceptional understanding of algebra and geometry concepts. The focus of the course is the study of the families of functions that can be used to model real world phenomena and other applications. Topics of study will include the following types of functions: Linear (review), quadratic, exponential, logarithmic, polynomial, and power. Attention will also be devoted to sequences and series, statistics, probability, radical and rational equations, and graphing. Students will be expected to demonstrate problem solving strategies and appropriate use of technology to solve non-routine problems.Supplies: pencils, colored pencils, graph paper, binder paper, graphing calculator (TI-84 plus is recommended)Your grade is determined using a point system. Points are earned in the following categories. Also listed is an estimate of the number of types of assessments in each semester.
