    Re:       Frosh Presentation – Catch the Drake Spirit!

    Dear Parent/s:

    Your student recently participated in a 9th grade planning conference with a counselor.  At this presentation the following information was reviewed:

    • Counselor’s role in high school
    • Catching the Drake Spirit!  Ways to get involved (i.e., clubs, athletics, etc.)
    • Defining a successful frosh year

    Your student developed academic and personal goals in this meeting. I hope that you and your student discuss their goals so that they gain the most benefit from their Drake career.

    Your student also brainstormed ideas for “What Makes for a Successful Frosh Year” and “Ways to Catch the Drake Spirit.”

    The Instructional Guide contains information regarding graduation requirements, elective options, Academy programs and AP offerings.  Honors and AP courses are recommended for UC-bound students; however, Drake’s Counseling Department recommends that students select areas of interest and take only what is reasonable each semester given other activities.

    Please join us for Frosh Parent Night on
    Tuesday, September 27th at 6:00 p.m. in the Student Center.  At this evening the counseling department will present an overview of counseling and then we will break out into small sessions by student counselor.  At that time, I will look forward to the opportunity for us to get to know each other better and share issues, questions and answers.  If you are unable to make this date, please click here to review the presentation outline.   Please feel free to email me with any follow up questions.

    I will be meeting with your student soon to get to know her/him on an individual basis.  If there is anything that you would like to ensure that I address, please e-mail me that information, as I begin meeting frosh students in October.

    I am delighted to have the privilege of working with such an enthusiastic group of students this year.  I look forward to working together with your family to ensure their successful four years at Drake High School.

    Take risks, weather blows,

    Knowing before you begin that you will be exposed

    to a series of opposites;

    success and failure,

    happiness and unhappiness,

    praise and blame.”
