LES PRONOMS-COMPLÉMENTS
A pronoun is a word that replaces a noun when you do not want to repeat that noun. Example: Je vois le prof. Je le vois.
I see the dog. I see him.
1. Les pronoms directs
A pronoun is called a direct pronoun when it replaces a direct object.
Example: Il lave la voiture. Il la lave. (He washes what? The car: direct object)
In French, the direct pronouns are: me m' me
te t' you
le, la l' him / her / it
nous us
vous you
les them
Examples: Il invite Leslie et Pascal Il les invite. (He invites them)
Il NE les invite PAS
Nous aidons Maman Nous l' aidons. (We help her)
Nous NE l'aidons PAS
Note: At the negative form, the pronoun and the verb are included in the "sandwich" NE/PAS
2. Les pronoms indirects
A pronoun is called an indirect pronoun when it replace an indirect object.
Example: Il prête la voiture à sa soeur - Il lui prête. (He lends the car to whom? to his sister: indirect object)
In French, the indirect pronouns are: me m' to me
te t' to you
lui to him / her
nous to us
vous to you
leur to them
Examples: Tu leur donnes ton adresse you give them your address (to them)
Ils m' apportent un cadeau they bring me a gift (to me)
je NE leur prête PAS mon livre I do not lend them my book
