    Biography

    Northern Harrier

I was born in Texas, lived in Germany, Maryland, Michigan, Hawaii (three times), Japan, and several locations in our dear state of California. My parents were both in the sciences, my mother a microbiologist and my father a research and clinical biochemist. So you could say science came early and often for me growing up

I received my degree from University of California, Santa Barbara, in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. After graduation I worked in San Francisco at what was known at the time as Irwin Memorial Blood Bank in both clinical and research capacities involving HIV/AIDS. Afterward, I found myself in Japan doing a variety of work: English conversation teaching, science manuscript editing, and science technical writing. I had a blast.

My formal teaching experience consists of a ten year stint in Lahaina, Maui. My room had views of Lanai and Molokai. I returned to California to look after my ailing mother. It was a difficult time, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. During the time I cared for my mother I worked as a paraeducator here at Redwood. Now, Redwood has given me the wonderful opportunity to resume my teaching career here. I am very much excited to do so.
