    2020 AP Exams

The 2020 Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations will take place May 4, 2020, through May 15, 2020.  AP Exams provide students the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of materials covered in AP courses and, depending upon results and individual university policy, possibly earn college credit or placement.  If students and parents are curious to find out which colleges and universities offer credit or placement for AP Scores, please use this great tool created by College Board.

Changes To College Board's AP Program for 2019 -2020

Starting with the 2019-20 school year, students and families are being asked to interact with two systems, College Board and Total Registration. Students (and families) need to access College Board for instructional resources and provide information for their Student ID Label. In addition, students (and families) will need to access Total Registration to purchase their AP Exams.

    AP Exam Ordering:

While students will still be taking their AP Exams in May, they will need to register and purchase AP Exams in the fall. The process to register and purchase AP Exams has two parts:

Registering For AP Exams and Joining Course Section(s) on myap.collegeboard.org

    • Using unique "Join Codes" that have been distributed by AP teachers, students will enroll in their AP Course Section(s) through College Board.
    • Students should only use the unique "Join Codes" that their teacher provides for their AP Course Section(s).
    • Once students have joined their AP Course Section(s), they will have access to College Board's instructional resources.  Furthermore, if a student plans on taking one or more AP Exam(s) in May, they must confirm their intention.  By doing so, College Board will generate a Student ID Label that will be used on student's answer sheets for each AP Exam.
    • Joining Your AP Class Section

Things to keep in mind about the College Board account

For students who have taken an AP Course before (also if they've taken the PSAT and/or the SAT), they should already have a username and password to access their College Board account.  For those new to the AP program, students will need to create an account:

      • If a student has created a College Board account for the PSAT/SAT, they should use the same username and password for the AP account.  Students should not have two different College Board accounts.
      • For students who need to create an account or verify that they have an account, please access collegeboard.org
      • The students must have their own email associated with their  College Board account.  By doing so, if students forget their log in information, they can recover it easily.
      • Students should keep their username and password in a place they can access easily and quickly, perhaps on their phone.  they'll be needing this information numerous times throughout the year.

    Financial Assistance

Redwood HS students who have a verifiable financial need are eligible for financial assistance.  Students will be able to request financial assistance when they register and purchase exams online through Total Registration.

    Testing Conflicts

If there are conflicts with the AP Exam schedule, please see Tanya Jaspering in room 107 or call the AP Office, 415-945-3622, before the end of the registration period. There are VERY LIMITED circumstances under which the College Board or Redwood HS will approve a student for an alternative late testing date.  Students can not take two exams at the same time and Redwood HS will decide which exam a student will take first and which exam will be taken during the late testing window. This year’s late testing window, as set by College Board is Wednesday, May 22nd through Friday, May 24th.

If approved, an additional $50 late testing fee may apply.

    Testing With Accommodations

Students who currently have an IEP or a 504 Plan with testing accommodations must see their school counselor to confirm they have been approved for testing accommodations during AP Exams.  Only students who have been approved by the College Board are eligible to receive testing accommodations on their AP Exam. The last day to submit accommodations requests to College Board is January 17, 2020.

For those students who have already been approved by the College Board for testing accommodations, you do not need to re-apply.  During the registration process, families will be able to provide the College Board provided SSD # for accommodations.

Registering and Purchasing the AP Exam

Students at Redwood HS will register and purchase AP Exams online. This registration process will take a few minutes and can be completed from any computer with Internet access.  If access to the internet is a challenge, please see Tanya Jaspering in room 107.

Registration and purchase are processed through the Total Registration.  The website will be available on Tuesday, October 1, 2019.

To complete the registration process, students must answer all of the required questions.  Registration is not complete until students have printed the pdf of the confirmation page that is provided at the end.  We strongly recommend that parents/guardians and students are both present while registering to ensure that the correct AP Exams are purchased.

Redwood HS is excited to offer families the convenience of paying exam fees online at the time of registration. Please be sure to have a credit card or debit card before beginning the registration process.

Families that do not have the ability to pay online will mail their payment to TR. Please follow the directions on the payment stub that is printed at the time of registration to be mailed along with the check, cashier’s check or money order. TR will receive and record these payments and then email the family a confirmation showing the recorded payment. All payments must be received by November 4.

Families will mail their payment (payable to Total Registration, LLC) with their payment stub to:

    Total Registration, LLC

    PO Box 398

    Eldorado Springs, CO 80025

It is important that all checks include the Reference Number in the memo of the check. If a Payment Stub has not been printed, please enclose a copy of your confirmation.

    AP Calculator Policy

Calculators can be used on all or some parts of the AP Exams approved by College Board.  For a list of AP Exams where calculators are allowed and a listing of approved calculators, please visit the AP Calculator Policy

Students may use a four-function (with square root), scientific, or graphing calculator for the AP Biology Exam

    • Students should check the list of approved graphing calculators; bring only approved models.
    • Students can bring up to two calculators. They should bring calculators they are familiar with that are in good working order. Calculators may not be shared.
    • Calculator memories do not need to be cleared before or after the exam.
