Belmont University is a private Liberal Arts and Science Christian college located in Nashville, TN. The school has 8000 (1600 freshmen) 6400 undergrads and 1500 graduate students. They pride themselves on "teaching."
LOCATION: Belmont is 4 blocks from Vanderbilt. It is about 1.5 miles from downtown and 2.5 hours to the mountains.
HISTORY: School was founded in 1890 by 2 women. In the 1950's it was purchased by the Tennessee Baptist Church. While faculty mebers are Christian, school is no longer connected to a certain denomination.
STUDENTS: 25% of students are from Tennessee, also Texas, Ilinois, Ohio, Georgia and California.
ACADEMICS: Has 10 schools (Visual and Performing Arts; Law; Global Education; Theology and Christian Ministeries; Science and Mathematics; Health Sciences and Nursing; Music and Entertainment; Pharmacy; Liberal Arts and Sciences; Business.
Music Business is #1 most popular major (School owns and operates 2 studios on music row). Songwriting requires a portfolio. Nursing is #2 most popular and they have a direct entry program.
2 theology courses are required as part of Gen Ed Courses and there are 60 requirements over the 4 years.
STUDENT LIFE: 18-20% of students are involved in Greek Life: Dry Campus; Div I Athletics (no football or swimming)
APPLYING/FINANCIAL AID: Avg GPA is 3.6; average ACT is 26 and SAT is 1210.
75% of students receive Financial Aid (all applicants automatically considered for Merit Aid. 60% of those admitted will received between $3000-10,000/year.
If student's cumulative average exceeds freshman average, student will get a Merit Award.
If you have a 4.0 and 30 ACT, student can get a $10,000 award.
