This year marks the 50th anniversary of Brown's innovative "Open Curriculum", which has no core requirements outside of the classroom (just must take 30 courses). This flexible but rigorous approach to undergraduate education pushes students to be creative thinkers, intellectual risk-takers and entrepreneurial problem-solvers.
First two weeks of school year is "shopping period" where students can take ANY course to try on for size before committing.
Grading: Regular grades, but with some courses you have the option for SNC (Satisfactory/No Credit).
Advising: Students have both a faculty advisor and an upper classman.
Special Programs: 1. Brown/RISD Dual Degree Program is a 5 year program allowing students to earn a bachelor of arts degree from Brown and bachelor of fine arts degree from Rhode Island School of Design. (selective, about 15 students) 2. Program in Liberal Medical Education (PLME) is an 8 year continuum that allows students to combine both their undergraduate and medical school education at Brown. (about 75 student cohort)

Financial Aid: 43% of Class of 2023 received need-based scholarship or grant aid and 100% of demonstrated need is met.
