Good advice for next week - please read! (sent 11/22/19)

Dear Seniors,

You may have heard me or your counselor say to submit your CSU and/or UC application "before you smell turkey." Yes, you have until November 30 but it is our recommendation that you submit it before Thanksgiving. Here's the official blurb from the UC system:

"While submitting an application early does not provide any additional benefit to an admission decision, we highly encourage your students to avoid waiting until the last minute so there are no issues meeting the deadline. We look forward to seeing your students applications by November 30 at 11:50 pm Pacific time."

Another reason to submit these applications early is so you can enjoy the week off and enjoy the holiday without worrying about college applications. With that in mind, here is some wonderful advice from Tulane University's Director of Admissions' blog that has one point in particular that is appropriate as we approach next week's holiday:

"Let Thanksgiving be a college-free zone. Everyone is going to ask you where you applied, where you got in, where you want to go. Set some ground rules with the fam. Mom and Dad, you might have to lead this charge. Let this be a time with your family to decompress, truly enjoy each other's company, and leave all that college-talk for some other time. There's not much that can be changed now, so getting into stressful conversations over turkey won't help anyone. Go play some football instead."

Have a wonderful holiday!
