ATHLETE HEALTH & SAFETY

The Tamalpais Union High School District is committed to providing a safe, healthy environment for our athletes.  To that end, the District has taken the following actions:

  • Required annual Athletic Registration for all athletes through your school athletic site.  Please be sure to update your Athletic Clearance account as soon as any medical information changes.
  • Complied with CIF requirements for health screening for athletes and concussion information prior to participation.
  • Complied with CIF requirements for coaching certification including current first aid, CPR, concussion and sudden cardiac arrest courses.
  • Included first aid and CPR certification as well as concussion education in Core Physical Education classes.
  • Modernized all athletic facilities within the last ten years.
  • Contracted with Marin Health. The athletic trainer's major responsibility is the safety of student athletes. S/he may make decisions about the ability of an athlete to practice and play and must clear them for return-to-play after a concussion.

The District believes that the medical care of athletes is the responsibility of the family.  Injured athletes may be required to have clearance from a medical provider before returning to play.

ATHLETIC TRAINERS

TUHSD trainers are contracted through Marin Health. All athletic trainers work with TUHSD programs from 2:00-7:00 p.m. on weekdays and on Saturdays (for scheduled events). Athletic trainers at each site are:

SCREENING

Some families may want to take advantage of pre-concussion (baseline) testing that may be helpful in follow-up if a concussion is sustained.  ImPACT is a baseline test that is administered by TUHSD certified athletic trainers. See the athletic trainer for more information.  If a student-athlete suffers a concussion, a physician may request that the athletic trainer administer a post-concussion test.  The physician will interpret the results of the tests.

Some families may want to participate in the Play Safe Cardiac Screening that is offered through our athletic trainers and their relationship with UCSF.
