How to Use and Access Parent Canvas Accounts

Parent Canvas Accounts

It is recommended that parents check their student's schoolwork regularly to avoid any surprises.  Many teachers use the Canvas app for assignments and grading. Canvas is updated more frequently than the school Student Information System, Parentvue (Synergy). Parents can create a Canvas account and pair it with their student's account to keep track of homework, projects, tests and grades. See the instructions below.

How to Create a Parent Canvas Account and Pair with your Student 

*Note: you will need to be ready to get information from your student’s account before you can create a parent Canvas account.

Step One: Get the information you need from your student’s account.

STEP 1: Your student will need to log into their Canvas Account. 

1. Click ACCOUNT. 

2. Then, click on SETTINGS. 

-3. Next, click on Pair with Observer (depending on the width of your screen, this may appear at the bottom of the page). This will generate a STUDENT PAIR CODE you will need to create and pair your account.

 


 

Step Two: Go to https://tamdistrict.instructure.com/login/canvas to create a parent account. Click on PARENT OF A CANVAS USER.

If you are using the CANVAS APP, click FIND SCHOOL and type in “Tamalpais Union HS District (parents)”

 

Step Three: Complete the form to create the account. Use the STUDENT PAIRING CODE generated in Step One. Click START PARTICIPATING (you should automatically have access to your students courses).
